Last night as was excited as a five year old on Christmas Eve, it was the night before throwing off my lines. Of course a medicinal sleep cure was required which prompted a walk from Lymington Yacht Haven to The Ship Inn on the town quay. It is a smart upmarket gastropub which offers rather expensive but good food and a decent pint to thirsty sailors. They are sailor friendly and offer a shower which rivals most hotels. My first crew , Gareth gives it the thumbs up. After years of practice he is an expert at judging a good pint.
Lines were thrown off at midmorning and we had a fast furious sunshine filled downwind run past the Needles, old Harry Rocks, Anvil Point and St Albans Head. So blessed was the day that even the guns of Lulworth Firing Range failed to sink our spirits or Rumline. Rumline out ran Royalist who had a lead on us.
We surfed into Weymouth Harbour past rows of pretty pastel buildings into a harbour filled with fishing boats and noisy seagulls. A friendly harbourmaster waited on the dockside ready to grab our lines and direct us to a wateringhole. We went ot the Old Rooms on the other side of the harbour because there was a possibility of getting beaten up if we went to the George. We did actually braved the George and managed not to be into a fight but got told a good joke: Kate Middleton asked the Queen the secret of a long and happy marriage. The Queen replied don't piss me off and wear a seat belt.
A happy surprise awaited Chubbs who drove us down the night before couldn't resist and drove down to meet us on this first leg. Tomorrow westward ho!
