Our plan is to sail Rumline my Contessa 32 around the UK avoiding sinking and drowning so that we can explore, collect tales and ultimately find the best drinking holes for sailors. Our journey will begin by leaving the Solent and turning west. There is no itinerary just a knowledge of what is safe and what is possible. We want to keep an element of surprise and serendipity and leave some of the choice to mood and the wind gods.

May 9 Towards the Land of Pasties and Doom Bar
Salcombe was our next port of call as the Crew became mutinous due to light winds and rain. We approached the jagged teeth of Bolt Head after a distance breaking motor of 14 nm I called the harbourmaster to ask if entry was possible over the bar at low water. The secret of Salcombe was revealed if you stay close to the westwardside of the channel you can squeeze past the bar. The boys were happy as it was another sort of bar they wanted to enter. Straight to the town pier as we snaked our way down the beautiful estuary passing lush green topped hills sprinkled with beautiful houses that tumbled to the water and pretty boats bobbing on their moorings. A friendly harbour master took our lines and welcomed us. The boys made straight for the Victoria Inn, proper ale and chickens in the beer garden. A perfect man creche!
